Overview

Sunset Sprint is a puzzle game I developed in my personal time over 3 months. As a Vampire Deer (Hydropotes inermis), you've been caught out too late into the night and sunrise is just around the corner. Players are tasked to reach the coffin at the end of the stage to safely guard themselves until nightfall. Each step the player takes in this puzzle game pushes the sun closer and closer.

I wanted to create a game where players had to strategically plan out how they'd approach each level with a limited set of turns. Using this, I had the chance to create level mechanics such as spikes that raise/lower each turn, pits that must be jumped across using level power ups, and stumps that block your path but can be pushed out of the way; to name a few. The goal here was to have several level obstacles I could have at my repertoire to mix and match, and create interesting puzzles through this limited set.

While not released for public play, I used Sunset Sprint as a way to push my Level Design skills, along with pushing myself to continue my practice in creating a whole suite of game dev features. Playtesting with friends and family resulted in positive response, remarking fun and enjoyable progression through the game's 20 levels.
