Overview
Scattered is a primarily exploration based piece that has players walk through a large, minimalist-styled forest, complete with grand ruins and obstacles. During one’s journey through this piece, books are scattered around that reveal bits and pieces of the ambiguous plot or backstory, which is told through the thoughts and conversations of the village residents. Scattered is a tale of a young girl, who is shunned away and hated due to her extraordinary powers.

Scattered has players walk through minimalist scenery, collecting parts of a story and having it unfold ambiguously throughout the experience. It was created in the video game medium in order to provide viewers with a more personal experience, allowing one to progress through at their own pace and potentially allow for a deeper level of immersion. Minimalism was used order to compliment the ambiguous nature of the story, as well as to provide a mystical environment for the girl and the player to explore. A sense of scale in the environment was used to both provide an obstacle to overcome, such as the large golem wandering around, as well as a final goal that the player can strive toward from the very beginning, which the large tree in the distance takes the role of.

Created entirely in the game engine program Unity, this piece was displayed in a post-secondary gallery on a large television screen with a controller attached to it and a seat nearby. This was to provide a comfortable gaming experience, much like one would have at their own home.
