Overview
Moment is a personal project created for the Extra Credits Holiday 2018 Game Jam alongside two other developers, Mitchell Alfaro and Will Chen. With the theme of “Present” in mind, we sought to create a game using the term in the “here and now” sense. Moment tasks you to navigate through a series of 10 8-bit puzzle levels where stopping to take a moment to clear your mind illuminates the path forward.

I was responsible for the game design, art and level design. The main design goal and challenge was to tackle the age old issue of how to make the act of waiting fun and/or interesting enough and to use it as a meaningful main mechanic. This quickly lead to a loop of having the player's circle of vision shrink each time they take a step, in turn letting this circle expand if the player chooses to wait.

Using both the player’s field of view and enemy design, Moment tackles this by rewarding players who wait with a turn skip, a resource replenish, and a way to defeat enemies.
